Yalda is one of the most celebrated traditional events in Iran, which marks the longest night of the year. Iranians around the world celebrate the arrival of winter, the renewal of the sun, and the victory of light over darkness annually on December 21. Hengame explains the significance of the celebration, while sharing it’s impact on the Amercan-Iranian community.

Elham Sayereh Sings
Ellie Sayareh graces us with her voice.
Farsi Show with Hengame Abassi focuses on the people in our community who make a difference across cultures. On this episode Hengame interviews acclaimed Iranian singer, Elham Sayareh, who sings a cappella and shares some in-studio discussion. Ellie grew up singing in an artist family. She sang with her parents and her brother, who is a pianist. Elham was trained in Iranian traditional music by Mrs. Parisa, (Fātemeh Vā’ezi,) who is one of the greatest traditional singers of Iran. She then took a short-term class with Mehdi Sepehr and Mojgan Shajarian and has had performances in Iran and outside of Iran. Today she is married to Omid Sayareh, who is a music composer and Santour player. They have been Angelinos since 2013. Ellie has a Bachelor’s degree in English Translation from Tehran, and she is currently studying medical courses here in Los Angeles.

International Child Day
Providing support and assistance for children all over the world.
Farsi Show with Hengame Abassi focuses on the people in our community who make a difference across cultures. On todays episode Hengame traveled to the the International Child Day event at the Calabasas Civic Center on Sunday November 22. The event was sponsored by Child Foundation and it’s group of volunteers.
Peyman Raoofi, Psy.D., who is the president of Child Foundation and Cambria Findley-Grubb invited UNICEF representatives, speakers and a host of children out for the occasion. Children from age of two- eleven danced, played music, held a fashion show. During the festivities reporters from KPCRadio.com, Krin670 am, and Radio Shadi were covered the event.

Farsi Show with Hengame Abassi focuses on the people in our community who make a difference across cultures. On this episode Hengame shares the Paiesaneh event sponsored by the
Persian Club at Pierce College. Several speakers and performers gathered for food, discussion and community.
Some of the notable attendees were Sheida Mohamadi, Shadi Amini, Elham Gordi, Sareh Sokot, and Ramin Yousefzamani. The event was held on Friday November 20, 2015 in the Great Hall on campus.

Farsi Show with Hengame Abassi focuses on the people in our community who make a difference across cultures. On this episode Hengame interviews Ramin Yousefzamani, who is a symphony violinist. Ramin discusses how he learned to play symphony violin at the age of four. Then he attended Tehran Conservatory of Music when he was ten. He also played violin in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, three world music festivals, and several venues around the world. Including the Nokia Theatre (Now the Microsoft Theater), the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, the Kodak Theatre (Now the Dolby Theatre) and LACMA.

Nahal Ghodousi is a counselor and professor here at Pierce College and Glendale Community College. She attended CSUN, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, and certificate in Career Counseling. She is fluent in both speaking and writing Farsi and English. She was born and raised in Los Angeles. In today’s episode, Nahal answers questions from Pierce students.
