Listen: Art of Your Life – Ars Poetica Club and Roundup cartoonist Maria Salvador

Art of Your Life hits up the art scene on the Pierce College campus with ArsPoetica Club president Edgar Rodriguez and member David Durrani. Host Lorrie Reyes also speaks with the Roundup’s award winning cartoonist Maria Salvador about her comic strip, “No Bull”, that’s featured in Pierce’s weekly newspaper, “The Roundup”.

Erin Stone and Addy Gonzales, co-founders of the San Fernando Art Collective 11:11 and Canoga Park High School, artist, Jessica Guillen, visited the studio. They spoke to host Lorrie Reyes, about art in the 818 and their new event.

Stone is an award winning photographer and current Pierce College student.

Listen: Art of Your Life – Zina Bethune, director of “Silent Roar”

This week’s installment of “Art of Your Life,” welcomed Zina Bethune. Bethune is currently directing “Silent Roar,” which is in its last weekend at the El Portal Theatre. Bethune was in Martin Scorsese’s first film, “Who’s That Knocking on My Door?” and has been an artist all her life. Listen, as host Lorrie Reyes talks about “Silent Roar,”  which is based on the artwork of Wyland, and how Bethune has always been pushing the limits in all medias.

Michael Sande, Pierce College’s theatre manager, visited the studio this week to talk about his life and times in theatre. He also spoke about the opening of Pierce College’s new season of plays, including “The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow” (which opened Friday, October 21) and it’s unique local angle to Pierce College. With the theatre currently under construction, he also talked about what can go wrong when you are in a temporary structure.

“Art of Your Life” will be diving into the art in the San Fernando Valley. Art is literally all around us, yes, even in the SFV. “Art of Your Life” will let you know where to get your art fix without having to trudge down to Hollywood or the Westside and you’ll tell us why art is the love of your life.

Our first show welcomed Roslyn Wolin, president of the San Fernando Valley Arts Council and local artist Morgan Kari. Kari is one of the 23 valley artists that opened their homes and personal studios for the 2011 Valley Artists Studio Tour (VAST). Wolin and Kari discussed the event and their love for art.
