Annual Book and Toy Drive ends December 24, 2015

Lets Talk Community with Lupe LLerenas is a show that focuses on community involvement. On this episode Lupe interviews Evelyn Juarez and Cristen Sayegh from CCRC which is the Child Care Resource Center in Chatsworth. Evelyn is the Center’s community outreach specialist and Cristen is the communications and marketing specialist. Lupe is also joined by Tanisha Saunders and Cheron Lewis of the Child Development Club at Pierce College. The group discuss the programs offered by the Resource Center, and the upcoming Book and Toy Drive they are hosting this holiday season. They also explain the connection between the Child Development Club and how the Child Care Resource Center supports students in the Brahma community.

On this episode Lupe interviews the Lucy Lee, who the head instructor of the Project DATE program at California State University Northridge. The program focuses on sexual assault prevention on university and college campuses. Lucy talks about her history as a student., and how she became active in the peer counseling community. She shares the importance of assault prevention, the most recent incidents at CSUN,  and how the program assists students in the community.

Peer 2 Peer mentoring is a new part of the matriculation plan at Pierce College.

Lets Talk Community with Lupe LLerenas is a show that focuses on community involvement. On this episode Lupe interviews the Peer 2 Peer (P2P) Mentoring Program at Pierce College. The group discusses their roles, as well as how the program assists students with matriculation to a four year University. The program itself is a part of the new Student Success and Support Plan, which was voted into the campuses most recent accreditation plan in 2014. P2P Mentors Tanisha Saunders, John Lobo share their experiences, and their overall campus involvement. They have been in the program since it started this summer. Diana Madueno, who is the program supevisor for P2P and CSUN student shares a new a new activity she called the Study Jam. Mentors to help mentees study and assist them in completing their educational plan. Kaylee Sanchez and Joseline Menjivar are two of those first year mentees.

On this episode Lupe interviews Olympia LePoint, who is a NASA rocket scientist, author, TED Talks speaker, and a part-time Math professor at Pierce College and Pasadena City College. Olympia discusses her book Mathaphobia and reprogramming the brain to overcome fears. She also talks about her challenges with math,  growing up in South Central Los Angeles in the 80’s, and being bussed into Hamilton High School’s Music Academy for performing arts.
