Yesterday on Music from the Underground, hosts Courtney Coles and Maurice McFarland had Chyla Anderson in the studio. Along with Anderson was her good friend, Tom Strahle on guitar.
We touched base on her influences which range from The Script and Joni Mitchell to her family and living in Los Angeles.

We were joined by a Nigerian priest who is based in the San Fernando Valley. Father IK is the parish head administrator at our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Canoga Park. The studio rejoiced with the sounds of nigerian music, and tales of a life that was left behind. Leaving us with a sense of what family truly is.
Join us next week right here on KPCRadio.com. Will be joined by Najla Adahy, who was born in Afghanistan, and is a local beautician.

This week on our show, we discussed sports on a college level. We had two guests; the first was Jon Gold who is the UCLA beat writer for the Los Angeles Daily News. We had him via telephone for the first ten minutes of our show. Gold covers football and basketball at UCLA, and has started to cover baseball as a result of their success this season.
Gold who is the UCLA beat writer for the Los Angeles Daily News talked about the changes at UCLA especially those at Pauley Pavilion. Gold also talked about the rugby team and how it fits in at a school like UCLA compared to San Diego State, which Gold attended.
Also joining us in studio was Pierce Athletic Director Bob Lofrano. Lofrano talked about the struggles a community college program faces, whether it be an athlete or team everyone faces struggles.
Coaches are not full time and that is something that Lofrano and Dean of Athletics Barbara Anderson want to change. Anderson and Lofrano do not want to lose the current number of teams but would like to increase it.
Next week on “Tackling the Valley” we will be looking at the professional game. Tune in at noon on KPCRadio.com to listen.

To be brave often comes with a price. Wednesday, we talked about what it takes to be courageous — the determination, the perseverance of it all. Do we all have courage? Or, are we awarded it like the badge of honors given to military folk? Is courage merely the average of our cowardice and our reckless abandon?
We hit the mall at Pierce College and asked students what they would do if they had all of the courage in the world. In studio, we were joined by Matt Johnson, United States Navy Hospital Corpsman. Johnson became a corpsman and is pursuing a career in law enforcement even though he is partially color blind.
