Tristan discusses working in the mental health community.

Local Voices with Isela Gonzalez is a show that focuses on mental health in our community.  On this episode Isela interviews Tristan who represents the organization Painted Brain, which is an organization that works with adult mental health patients. He shares his personal experience with being hospitalized for schizophrenia, and now working with the community through his organization. He mentions that the program offers free classes on songwriting, social media, theatre, art, etc. Tristan also shares that it is open to all adults and is totally free.

On this episode Isela interviews Julia Alvarez, who is a public relations strategist, talks about working with Cosmopolitan Latina. They talk about the upcoming Cosmo Latina event, and discuss what it means to be Miss Latina Cosmopolitan.

Julia talks about the scholarship, while explaining the history of the show, and the contest entry fee. She also talks about a future event with Teleton Foundation USA. Isela introduce stage performer and actor Edgar Diaz. He talks about his stage show, and what it takes to make on stage changes. Edgar also does a few impressions live on the air.

On this episode Isela interviews Aida Espinoza Vasquez, who is an Academic Dean at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Los Ángeles. Aida mentions the educational opportunities for Mexican American students at UNAM. She explains that all students can get their Bachelor’s, Master’s  and PhD. through the online programs offered.  Aida shares that her organization is contracted to work with CSUN. She also encourages Mexican American’s to register, apply and take the admission exam.

Local Voices with Isela Gonzalez is a weekly talk show discussing local community issues. On this episode Isela interviews Guadalupe Yepiz, who teaches Manualidades (Arts and Crafts) to mental health patients for therapy. Guadalupe discusses her experiences working at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. She talks the different activities that she organizes for the patients. She says that she holds classes on drawing, painting, crochet, and knitting. Guadalupe shares how many of the patients are able to overcome some of the challenges they have faced through activities she teaches in her class. She invites everyone to joint her classes at Placita Olvera and at Harbor UCLA Medical Center on Tuesdays. She also says that all the classes are free.

Local Voices with Isela Gonzalez is a weekly talk show discussing local community issues. On this episode Isela interviews Julio Celada from the County Department of Mental Health. Julio discusses the importance of support groups, and his position supervising mental health groups for Spanish speakers. He explains that the program is free to Los Angeles County residents. Julio talks about the different diagnosis of mental health, such as stress, depression and even schizophrenia. He says that the program also has groups for all members of the family, and he mentions that he has worked for the County of Los Angeles for 10 years.

The Coalition meets once a month in the California Endowment building. Los Angeles County Department Mental health support. This organization works with the Hispanic community and everyone is welcome. Haydee shares her personal experiences dealing with mental health. The Coalition provides food and host group meetings.
