In this segment Malena Fuentes focuses on art education in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Patricia Torres-McLeod, who teaches art at Grant High School shares her love for children, and how her teaching process is a product of that emotion. Evelyn Serrano, who is the arts integration coordinator at LFCSA mentions that the Arts is an academic discipline, and that she believes that it is a integral part of education process.

Steve J. McCarthy, PhD. is the K-12 arts coordinator of the Arts Branch at LAUSD. Steve agrees that visual and performing arts is part of the core standards, and that creativity is currently essential for working in all industries. Grant High art student Gustavo Fuentes talks about how Patricia Torres-McLeod originally encouraged him to try art, and how the decision has helped him choose a path for his future. Emily Aslan, another art student at Grant explains how Torres-McLeod sees potential in her students, and motivate them to achieve success.

In this profile Malena Fuentes features Jennifer Rosenberg, who is the chair of the Department of Speech Communication. Jennifer says that communications gives a person an opportunity to learn about many fields. She also mentions how the campuses Speech Department has grown significantly in order to support transfers to California State University Northridge.

Communications Professor Yeprem Davoodian mentions that Rosenberg is welcoming to other staff members and that she is an amazing co-worker. He also says that she has a diverse perspective and allows students openly contribute. Spanish major Jason Baek shares that Professor Rosenberg is very lively and fair. He also says that she allows students to freely share their opinions in class.

In this profile Malena Fuentes features Diana Cummins, who is a Yoga professor in the Kinesiology Department.

Shilo Nelson, who is the chair of the Physical Education Department says that Professor Cummins is a kind, warm, and amazing person. She also mentions that Cummins is very knowledgeable, and that her students not only respect her, but feel comfortable around her. Professor Cummins says she enjoys seeing students understand how to cope with stress through Yoga.

Jessica Clero, who is a Political Science student says that the Yoga class really helps her cope with stress and anxiety due to IBS. She says that Yoga helps her calm down and relax. Yoga student Sam Alon also explains that the Cummins is patient and detail oriented.

Maryley discusses organizing the first mural tour in Pacoima, California.

Hoy es Domingo with Malena Fuentes is a show that focuses on the power of the Spanish voices in our community. On this episode Malena interviews Maryley Carrillo Camacho, who is the committee co-chair at The Museum of the San Fernando Valley Public Art Initiative. She discusses organizing the first mural tour in Pacoima, and how the proceeds from the event assisted in restoring some of the murals in the community. She says that next exhibition they will be sponsoring will focus on Latin American art in the Valley. Maryley shares that they have a permanent collection called Hollywood at Home, which is about about the artists that lived in San Fernando Valley. She also talks about other art initiatives, such as Horses Across the Valley, and the Art Speakers Series.

Hoy es Domingo with Malena Fuentes is a show that focuses on the power of the Spanish voices in our community. On this episode Malena interviews three bilingual Outreach Librarians from Los Angeles Public Library. Vania Arevalo works at the West Valley branch, Alicia Reyes is from the East Valley Bilingual branch, and Alicia M. Rodriguez works in the Los Angeles Public Library. Vania explains how to find free resources such as books, music, and videos in Spanish. Alicia Reyes talks about tutoring services, Naturalization workshops, and workshops on obtaining a drivers license. Alicia Rodriguez talks about their Children’s day event, and a local poet who performed by the name of Luis Rodriguez.

Hoy es Domingo with Malena Fuentes is a show that focuses on the power of the Spanish voices in our community. On this episode Malena talks with Stewart J. Wolfenson, who is the president of La Peña Madridista. The Official Real Madrid L.A. Supporters Club of Southern California. He is joined by Leo Molina, who is the Club’s executive advisor, and Fernando de Marcos. Fernando says he is a avid Real Madrid fan. They all discuss soccer, and their passion for building a local community. They share their interest in supporting L.A. based charities, while Stewart and Leo tell a few emotional anecdotes They also mentioned that the best way to enjoy Real Madrid games in Los Angeles is to join the Club.
