This week, members of the student group Students Organizing for Success, or S.O.S., came on the program. We discussed some current news as well as the recent presidential debate. We talked about how they first got into politics and activism, and the influence James McKeever, professor of Sociology, has had on them. We discussed our political ideologies, as well as common misconceptions.

We went Pierce local for this episode of “In the Know” with two of the officers for Pierce College’s student government, the Associated Students Organization. ASO President Shane Mooney and Director of Committees Fernando Aquino discussed projects this they’re proud of, decisions they regret, and future plans for the school’s student government.
Former congressional representative candidate Susan Shelley joined us for this episode of “In the Know.” On behalf of the Republican party, Shelley ran for this year’s election that would determine who would stand for California’s 30th congressional district, but only made it to the primary race in June 2012. During the show, Shelley talked about being a Republican candidate in a Democratic state, being the only woman to run during the elections, and planning for possible future endeavors in politics.
For this episode of “In the Know,” Hank Thomas, a first-time author, joined us over the phone to talk about his recently released book, “A Broken Sausage Grinder.” The book explores the history of the United States federal government and its inherent flaws. Thomas talked about why he likens the government to a broken sausage maker, why he decided to publish the book, and his future plans.
